*Granular: A Sonic Analog of the Grain
Friday June 7 + Saturday June 8 7:30 pm – 9:00 pm
Canadian Grain Elevator Discovery Centre
The viewer (listener) will experience the volume of material and depth of story that moved through the Nanton elevator, and in a sense, all grain elevators. Using the architecture’s natural reverberation, and enhanced via amplification to give it a voice, speakers will lead viewers on a sound excursion of granular synthesis* in and around the grain elevator itself, as well as a tour by the Museum Matron and the artist in residence Alex Moon.
*Granular synthesis is the core technology behind time-stretching and pitch-shifting algorithms and can be used to generate extraordinary evolving soundscapes.
