You got visual art in my film! You got film in my visual art! Mmm, delicious!*
Lethbridge’s CASA have combined two great tastes that go great together: the CASA Film Series celebrates its 5th anniversary in 2014 with a program of fascinating films about art.
Public screenings of films about art that are often difficult to find; many of them aren’t widely distributed or otherwise unavailable. CASA, like a few other galleries or artist-run centres, offers a film about art every month.
The dates for the screenings are:
January 22: Bull’s Eye: A Painter on the Watch
A profile of Marc Seguin, a Canadian artist who hunts and paints.
February 26: Francoise Jolivet: I’ll Be the One With the Pumpkin
French sculptor Jolivet etches pumpkins, creating images as they grow.
March 26: Mark Lombardi: Death Defying Acts of Art and Conspiracy
Untangle the mystery of Marc Lombardi, an artist who linked global finance and terrorism — and was found dead weeks after 9/11.
April 23: KOOP: The Art of Wanda Koop
Travel with painter Wanda Koop as she journeys by freighter boat to gather sketches, photographs and observations that result in massive new works of disquieting landscapes.
May 28 (double bill): Richard Long: Stones & Flies
Richard Long travels to the arid volcanic Hoggar mountains in Algeria to collect inspiration for his art.
The Eye: Hamish Fulton
“Walking artist” Hamish Fulton draws on his experiences of walks he has taken around the world to create multimedia art.
June 27: Makoto Aida: Cynic in the Playground
Iconoclastic Japanese artist Makoto Aida draws inspiration from the complicated world of post-bubble popular culture to create provocative work.
All screenings are at 7pm, admission is by donation
