AMAAS is looking to sponsor Media Arts in Alberta!

AMAAS is committed to promoting media arts in Alberta and as such we have developed a sponsorship program to support media art projects, presentations, performances, and productions. We believe our members and the media arts community are the experts in programming and we are allocating sponsorship dollars toward suitable projects. The AMAAS Sponsorship Program will be based on regional equity, media art excellence and accountability.

AMAAS will provide cash sponsorship for media arts* related projects, such as media art installations, shows, artist talks, workshops, film festivals, symposiums, presentations and other presentations and productions. Each sponsorship is for a one-year term with option to renew. Sponsorships are available in amounts of $250 – $750.

*AMAAS defines media art as independent artist initiated and controlled use of film, video, new media, audio/sound art and related media.

APPLICATION PROCESS:

1) Make sure you are an AMAAS member in good standing. To apply or renew, click here.

2) Fill out the application form below by the annual deadline of April 1 at 11:59PM MST, and send support materials to projects@amaas.ca.

3) Your application will be sent to a jury for assessment.

4) We will email applicants by April 25. At this time, you may request feedback on a project that was not selected to help you improve your application for next year, or you will sign an agreement form in order to recieve your sponsorship.

5) Funding will be distributed by end of April/early May.

6) Within a month of your project or event finishing, we will send you a short report form to fill out.

Calgary Underground Film Festival Society

CUFF.Docs Documentary Film Festival showcases the best in non-fiction films. The event presented by the Calgary Underground Film Festival screens 15+ full-length features, as well as shorts, varying in subject, style and genres within the art form. The upcoming 12th CUFF.Docs will take place from November 20-24, 2024 at Globe Cinema.

Digital City is the illuminating of Medicine Hat’s urban environment with media arts projection installations.

Edmonton Short Film Festival

Edmonton (Treaty 6 Territory, Métis District 10)

The annual Edmonton Short Film Festival showcases Alberta films 15 minutes and under on Saturday, Long Shorts on Sunday which includes 360 films and International short films and our Friday night special filmmaker event. Saturday night is the Red Carpet Gala with live music, nibblies, silent auction, photos, genre awards for the best of in a number of categories and Audience Choice Award.

Homegrown Short Film Showcase

Beyond a Film Festival, The Homegrown Short Film Showcase is establishing itself as a community-oriented collective focused on inspiring creativity, connecting emerging filmmakers with new audiences, and providing space to create and nurture ideas.

International Festival of Winter Cinema 2025! Free outdoor winter film festival! IFWC is the world’s greatest free outdoor winter film festival. Every year, we screen winter, mountain, polar, indigenous, and local films at our snow theatre!

LUMA Quarterly - EMMEDIA Gallery & Production Society

Calgary (Treaty 7 Territory, Métis District 6)

Created in 2015, Luma is an online publication about independent film and media art published by EMMEDIA Gallery & Production Society and Calgary Society of Independent Filmmakers. Luma includes critical essays, reviews, interviews, and reflections about culturally relevant productions and art, expanding the Western Canadian perspective on an international platform. Our final edition will feature BIPOC creators to advance their careers and increase public awareness of their contributions.

Okotoks Film Society

Okotoks (Treaty 7 Territory, Métis District 4)

The Okotoks Film Festival is a 5 day in-person film spectacle showcasing films from around the world with a significant spotlight on local and Canadian films. The Festival is a mix of feature and short films across multiple unique screenings surrounded by music, food, and celebration to heighten the experience.

SYNC Sound and Image Conference brings together diverse artists, musicians, producers, designers, and enthusiasts to explore the intersections of art and electronic music.
