Cheryle Chagnon-Greyeyes is a Status Indian Cree woman, a member of Muskeg Lake Cree Nation, Saskatchewan. She has a Diploma in Advertising and Public Relations from Grant MacEwan University Edmonton, two Bachelors of Arts from the University of Calgary, one in Communications and the other in Canadian Native Studies.

Gary James Joynes (AKA Clinker) is an Edmonton based sound and visual artist who performs live cinema audio visual works around the world. With deep family roots in Canmore, Gary James Joynes will lead a sound walk & guided meditation to Grassi Lakes. The original trail was cut by the legendary mountaineer Lawrence Grassi who was aided by Dennis Joynes (Gary’s father) who grew up in Canmore.

Sharon Stevens

Sharon Stevens, a multi award-winning video artist and activist is an instigator who’s made a career of integrating art, activism, feminism, and community ritual making into a series of projects that enlighten, enliven and entertain. Since 1991 she has produced projects including documentary, experimental, web-based and performance based inter-disciplinary work.

She currently supports her art practice as Executive Director for Alberta Media Arts Alliance Society.

ECU: A Conversation with Reva Stone

Reva Stone’s work is concerned with an examination of the mediation between our bodies and the technologies that are altering how we interact with the world. She engages with a variety of forms of digital technologies to initiate discourses about how biotechnological and robotic practices are impacting upon the very nature of being human. She has received many awards, including the 2017 Distinguished Alumnae Award from the University of Manitoba, the 2015 Governor General’s Awards in Visual and Media Arts. She has exhibited widely in Canada, the US and Europe, has presented at symposia and has been published in journals such as Second Nature: the International Journal of Creative Media.

Reva Stone’s installation Repositories will be on exhibit at artsPlace Gallery from June 21 to June 26.

Jadda Tsui & Mathew Lindenberg

Jadda Tsui is a media artist working to explore various ways to communicate and generate investigations into how her perception of the world may or may not be similar to that of those around her. She is currently enrolled in undergraduate studies at the Alberta College of Art + Design. 

Mathew Lindenberg is an artist interested in integrating systems and simulations with narrative to explore new ways of telling stories and reaching audiences. Whether his penchant for putting hapless AI characters into overwhelming situations came from a childhood spent shepherding ant colonies, or an unresolved ego-maniacal god complex, is still undetermined. He received his BFA from ACAD in 2014.

Michelle Robinson

Canada 150 from an Indigenous Perspective

Michelle Robinson is a Slavey Dene born and based in Calgary, Blackfoot Territory of Treaty 7 that speaks on Indigenous issues and human rights. Michelle is the president of the Indigenous Peoples’ Commission in Alberta. In 2014, she had passed 2 policies nationally on the inclusion of Two Spirit and to stop the discriminatory spying on Indigenous people & organizations. In 2016, the policy to rotate to the nationality of Governor General to include Indigenous passed nationally too. Michelle is currently a candidate for Ward 10 in upcoming City of Calgary election.

Nicola Waugh

Nicola Waugh is an independent film programmer and communications professional based in Calgary. She holds a Master’s degree from York University and Ryerson University’s joint Communication and Culture program, and was the Programming Director of the Calgary Society of Independent Filmmakers (CSIF) and Director of the $100 Film Festival from 2012-2016. She has sat on juries for the Alberta Foundation For the Arts, Calgary International Film Festival, Prism Prize, GIRAF Animation Festival, Yukon Film Fund and the Gallery of Alberta Media Art (AMAAS), and was a member of the M:ST Performative Arts Festival Board of Directors from 2013-2016.
