60 Members of the Alberta Media Arts Community will descend on Edmonton's city centre for the 10th annual AMAAS Conference beginning Friday, June 26th with a premiere screening of Prairie Tales 11, and finishing with the AMAAS AGM at noon on Sunday, June 28th. Conference highlights include workshops with Alexis O'Hara and Trevor Anderson, several guest speakers and the announcement of the 2009 Spirit of Helen Award winner. Join Us For the 10th Anniversary of the AMAAS Conference!
The 10th annual Alberta Media Arts Alliance Society (AMAAS) Conference
takes place in Edmonton between June 26 - 28, 2009!
Featuring the premiere of emerging Alberta-based films and filmmakers
(Prairie Tales), workshops and presentations by internationally renowned
Montreal-based sound artist Alexis O’Hara and Edmonton’s own
world-renowned and award winning filmmaker Trevor Anderson, AMAAS
Conference 2009 aims to expand percerptions and definitions of
professional media arts and artists working at the forefront of Canada’s
contemporary arts scene.
Conference participants will gain a unique experience to network with
peers within the ever-expanding field of media arts. Conference fees
include all workshops, meals, and access to after parties. Fees start as

The 2005 AMAAS Conference
took AMAAS members into the heart of Alberta – the Rocky Mountains,
where members explored the atmosphere and opportunities of meeting in
Canada’s largest artists’ retreat, training and meeting centre
– The Banff Arts Centre.
Within this landscape,
AMAAS initiated a networking point with The Banff New Media Institute
and investigated the work of a variety of contemporary artists and thinkers.

"Media & Energy" took place at the Grande Prairie Regional
College, and featured screenings of new work (Priairie Tales, & more);
workshops (critical writing, artistic practice), a presentation by special
guest artist Bruce Baber (media artist, author, professor, crticial theorist),
commissioned art projects (Ian Birse/Laura Kavanaugh; Bernice Morin; Tom
Andruik), parties, meals and entertainment!
